I installed the EZtrunk in my 2014 Jeep Wrangler 4-Door; it took me 30 minutes. The trunk was easy to install, snug fit, durable, and will delay crooks.
The kit includes everything you need except for a small Philips screwdriver. The provided tools will fit the manufacturer’s bolts. I did use a hand ratchet to speed things up, but the option is up to you. The kit also included two seals; one for hard tops and one for soft tops. I easily removed the hardtop seal and replaced it with the larger soft top seal – it fit great.
The trunk fit snugly in place. Once the trunk is installed, closing up the back is intuitive. The trunk is not light, and you may need to push the trunk from the rear passenger seat, but otherwise not hard. The flaps extending to the rear are genius – no way a person can get a hand inside the trunk. The added straps add a significant advantage to preventing access, but you can still secure the trunk if you decide you don’t need them. The trunk seals up to the swinging door, which prevents somebody from getting fingers inside. A person would have likely had to use a heavy tool to get into the trunk.
The trunk feels very durable. The material is all steel – there are no plastic or weak parts. In order for a crook to break into the trunk, they will need to come prepared. An opportunist would have a very hard time getting access to the trunk. Because the trunk is snug, it is nearly impossible to see without the aid of scope to see what is inside.
The snug fit, the material, and preventing a view will most certainly delay a crook. A well-equipped crook would likely defeat the trunk, but it will not be easy, and it will not be fast.
The trunk secures about 50% of my rear cargo area. I can place my more sensitive items in the trunk while placing bulkier items like sleeping bags forward of the hold. The trunk is heavy enough to place some items on top, but nothing too heavy. The metal has a semi-textured finish – it is not super smooth, so things will slide around if placed on top.
Overall I’m very happy with the trunk. I’m confident in the trunk enough to leave some recovery and first-aid gear in the back.
The eztrunk is a solid built product that was very easy to install.
